Sarin Technologies Launches the Instructor Software for Polished Diamond Yield Improvement and Quality Assurance
(Kfar Saba, Israel, 24 August, 2009) Sarin Technologies Ltd. (U77.SI), a world leader in supplying technological equipment and software to the diamond industry, announced today that it has launched the Instructor, a new software package that runs on its polished diamond measuring equipment (DiaMensionTM, DiaMensionTM Lab Edition and DiaScan S+TM), which has been developed for improving the yield and assuring the quality that manufacturers can attain while polishing diamonds.
The Instructor software assesses the stone during various phases of the polishing process to verify adherence to the selected goals and quality parameters set by the operator (based on the optimal planning recommendation provided by Advisor™, Sarin’s software for computerized planning of rough diamonds). The Instructor software automatically determines the projected cut grade of the diamond and provides corrective action instructions, taking into account which parts of the stone remain to be polished and which parts have already been completed. The Instructor will warn the user if the cut grade of the diamond is a borderline case and is in danger of being downgraded. This prevents discrepancies between the planning and polishing stages of the diamond production process and assures the manufacturer that the best possible cut grade is achieved along with the highest yield. Conversely, the Instructor will advise the user of possible small changes to the polishing plan, which may allow the cut grade to be upgraded to the next level. The Instructor has the capacity to analyze possible deviations from the originally approved polishing “blueprint”, at all stages of the polishing process, in order to further increase value, including proposing possible asymmetrical solutions, which may increase yield significantly. The Instructor can implement various gemological institute standards, and can also use manufacturer-specific rules to implement operator-specific cut grades as derived from preferred subsets of laboratory standards.
“The Instructor is a very significant step forward for manufacturers in controlling the diamond polishing process to enhance yield” said Akiva Caspi, Sarin’s VP for the Marketing and Business Development. “Up to now, there have been difficulties in achieving optimal execution of polishing, guaranteeing best yield and highest quality. We believe this product’s launch will provide a significant boost to manufacturers who will now have better control over the actual polishing process, a stage of the diamond’s manufacturing previously not sufficiently addressed by Sarin’s high-technology solutions. The further automation of the polishing process with such high levels of finesse will aid the market in even further increasing productivity, yield and competitiveness.”
Release of the new Instructor product comes on the heels of the release of a new upgraded version of another mainstay of Sarin’s product lines – the new AdvisorTM IV software for computerized planning of rough diamonds, more fully incorporating inclusion mapping data from Sarin’s new Galaxy 1000TM product and providing even better planning solutions for small stones processed by the DiaExpert NanoTM platform.
“We are proud of being able to offer the market these new and upgraded offerings and are excited by the potential they have for increased sales” said Uzi Levami, Sarin’s CEO. “We believe that Sarin’s customers will significantly benefit from the new technologies we have introduced, especially in this challenging period, when the need for optimal quality and yield have become even more important to the industry.”
