| Sarin Technologies, the industry’s leading producer of planning, processing, and grading systems, announced July 20 that it will incorporate the new cut grading standards of the International Gemological Institute (IGI) into its products. “Potentially, the new IGI cut grading system will allow rough diamond planners and polished diamond re-cutters to obtain higher yield from their diamonds without compromising on cut grade,” said Yehuda Naim, Sarin’s vice president for the retail & gem lab markets. “Sarin clients will still be able to measure and grade their polished effortlessly with DiaVision, improve their cut by using DiaVision’s re-cut function, and plan and mark their rough using Advisor,” he added. Sarin’s three-dimensional scanning technologies are used in the everyday grading process at IGI, and they will undoubtedly serve the appraisers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers who apply the new system to their diamonds. According to Marc Brauner, CEO of IGI Hong Kong, “Our grading reports have recently been updated to include crown angle, pavilion angle, and total depth. IGI did not have to make major changes because we have been grading proportions since 1975. We made slight adaptations to our chart and replaced the term ‘proportions’ with ‘cut grade.’ We have always been an innovative lab, as the wide acceptance of our Hearts & Arrows grading reports has shown, and we’re confident our new cut grading standards will achieve similar acceptance. Initial feedback from the industry has been very positive.” |
